Distros I have tried ever

These are distros I've installed on my various laptops, roughly ordered chronologically. I used to distro-hop a lot, but settled on flavors of arch linux, ultimately. If you want to try installing stuff on hardware, I can wholeheartedly recommend a usb drive with ventoy.

  1. ~2013
    1. Ubuntu This was my foray into linux.
      1. decent for servers.
      2. lots of tutorials out there, so good for beginners in that way. At this point in time, however, Ubuntu is outclassed by other modern distros (mint).

      1. My more modern recommendation for new users, rather than ubuntu.
    3. Crunchbang (Very stylish. dead distro, though)
    4. Gentoo (Briefly)
    5. Debian. πŸ‘
      1. nice for servers

      1. Can't recommend it. Bad packaging system. Just go with something else
    2. Archbang This one was cool because it reminded me of crunchbang. I used it for a good while.

      1. This one is okay, but I've found it to be inferior to ArcoLinux currently. I used this one at my first job if I remember correctly.

      1. This is my modern go-to. Very confusing website, with lots of different downloads. But they've got extensive video tutorials and great overall support.

In terms of hardware I've installed linux on.

  3. Thinkpad T460s
  4. Dell XPS 15 (x2)
  5. Chuwi MiniBook X
  6. Steam Deck (I'm counting this because it is Arch lol)

 

Distros to try for fun#

    1. I tried this on my raspberry pi, It was cool. Very good setup for a desktop you want to control with just a gamepad.
