These are distros I've installed on my various laptops, roughly ordered chronologically. I used to distro-hop a lot, but settled on flavors of arch linux, ultimately. If you want to try installing stuff on hardware, I can wholeheartedly recommend a usb drive with ventoy.
- ~2013
- Ubuntu
- decent for servers.
- lots of tutorials out there, so good for beginners in that way. Imo it's outclassed by other modern distros (mint).
- Linux Mint👍
- my more modern recommendation for new users, rather than ubuntu.
- Crunchbang (Very stylish. dead distro, though)
- Gentoo (Briefly)
- Debian. 👍
- nice for servers
- Ubuntu
- ~2016
- ~ 2020
- EndeavourOS
- This one is okay, but I've found it to be inferior to ArcoLinux
- ArcoLinux 👍👍👍
- This is my modern go-to. Very confusing website, but great video tutorials and great overall support.
- EndeavourOS
In terms of hardware I've installed linux on.
- Acer Aspire One Netbook
- Acer C720 i3 (x3)
- Thinkpad T460s
- Dell XPS 15 (x2)
- Chuwi MiniBook X
- Steam Deck (I'm counting this because it is Arch lol)
