“DIY” Build Process
- Not so bad to do. It took about 20 min. I had to
- slot in ram
- slot in nvme drive
- attach touchpad ribbon cable
- snap on input shield / keyboard
- screw 5 screws on back
- slot in io modules
- Install OS
Good Stuff
- Nice. Big. Screen. With a cool 3:2 aspect ratio. (The 15 inch screen must be insanely tall lol)
- Good small-enough form factor
- No touch screen
- Really easy to assemble and disasemble
- Headphone jack
- IO modules are a cool idea
- Typing experience is good
- power draw is good if you install power-profile-daemon . See FW13 AMD Power Management
Bad Stuff
- Fans are exclusively on bottom of laptop, so if laptop is placed on fabric (bed), it gets really hot.
Microphone OOB experience bad, need to modify levels.- no fn lock light (minor)
- My spacebar is a bit squeaky and my up arrow key is rubbing on something. I wonder if I have some loosey ribbon cable somewhere in there.
Fixes
OS install
First try didn't work. It installed fine from the live cd, but failed to boot.
To fix it, I had to disable secure boot 🫠. This took me 3 installs and a couple hours to figure out.
