Fox vs Jigglypuff

General Philosophy

Puff likes to be in the air vs fox. They'll basically try to air camp you, but they can only really make progress if you let them (read: fox jumping facefirst into puff's aerials). The puff will spring traps and sort of hope that you jump into their back airs and stuff. Just don't give it to them and when you're far away do fullhop triple laser.

Here's a good overview on the matchup Basic Fox vs Jigglypuff Matchup Guide in Super Smash Bros. Melee (From Both Sides), it goes over very specific percent ranges.

Good Options

  • Always:
    • run up shield vs them in the air. you can upsmash out of it, wavedash out, fh nair out, fh bair, whatever.
  • They are at low percent. drill, up tilt, maybe nair

Avoid

  • Getting upthrow rested. It's as simple as it sounds. When you're pressuring them up close, make sure to always be holding either direction sideways. This buffers DI against their upthrow. especially on FD.
  • just always run in nairing in. try back turned sh bairs in place sometimes. or run in wavedash back.

They're Looking For

  • Sheild grab
  • Back air
  • Falling neutral air to build percent
  • pound in neutral. You can sheild this often.  Or just stand there/dash back and then just ram them with an upsmash when they miss.

Stage Position

  • You're gonna be under-ish them most of the time. They'll try to fall on you with a nair. Or catch your jump with a bair. Or they'll land on a platform to try and restart the situation.
  • They're air camping:
    • a
  • They're platform camping:
    • b
  • They're wavedash camping
    • You can laser them.
    • you can upsmash them
  • They're offstage recovering them
    • Just fullhop and laser them. Don't muck around with them once they've grabbed ledge, take center.

Edgeguards

  • almost never worth it. just laser them and stand in the middle of the stage.

On grab

  • Below 60 do upthrow bair or upthrow upair
  • Otherwise do upthrow upair to kill
    • when you upthrow, you should claw your upthrow upair. Or use z jump. Or use box. Basically you want to do this so you can dash, double jump, upair, and drift all with indedendent timings.

Stage Preference

  1. FD
    1. fullhop triple laser and fullhop double jump mega lasers is good
    2. you can just run under them if they are flying above you
    3. hold side when pressuring → never get rested
  2. Stadium
  3. Yoshi's
  4. BF
  5. Fountain/DL
  6. Fountain/DL

At 0%

  • to build percent
    • drill grab
    • drill uptilt
    • backair
    • nair to build percent

At Mid%

  • Upthrow upair can still kill, really
  • strong nair to upsmash either to kill or build damage

At Kill %

  • Drill grab upthrow upair
  • Fullhop bair
  • Sh falling upair
  • Uptilt their wavedash
  • weak bair / weak nair to upsmash

On Shine

  • Sets up a techchase but not so much else
  • You can maybe running shine downtilt? Doesn't seems so reliable though.

On Techchase

  • Probably try to techchase grab
  • sometimes you can drill reset them on plat missed tech into upsmash or grab. kinda rare though for puff to be teching on a plat.
