- CSS: Character Select Screen
Techniques
Here are various techniques to quickly navigate the user interfaces and menus found inside melee.
- Character Select Screen Tricks
- From CSS press LR+Start to get to the main menu to change rumble or sound settings. This is faster than holding b and pressing b again.
- Do do start+x+y on your controller from the CSS wihtout advancing to the stage select:
- On the CSS open the menu to choose an ingame tag (the tag selector not the tab editor with the keyboard)
- Hold start+x+y. This will unselect your character instead of advancing to the level select screen.
- (Alternatively, you can start x y during the loading screen of a stage)
- Rules Screen
- After setting the rules you want, you can press start to instantly return to the CSS. This is faster than pressing b twice.
- Sound Options
- Mash control stick left and dpad left to move the Music / Sound slider faster.
- Handwarmers
- I recommend leaving pause off during handwarmers when both players are present. It gives the following advantadges
- Don't need to spend time menuing to turn pause on before handwarmer
- Don't need to spend time menuing to turn pause off after handwarmer
- Because of <above> you don't risk accidentally changing some other setting like damage ratio or team attack
- I recommend leaving pause off during handwarmers when both players are present. It gives the following advantadges
- In game
- To quit out of a game quickly: first hold L+R+A, then without releasing them, press Start→Start.
- Wrong stage selected
- you can LRA+start while the stage is loading to avoid going into the game
- Post-Game Screen
- If you walk up to a a setup already on this screen with no other controllers plugged in, you can plug in your controller to any of the 4 ports and press start. There is no need to plug into any specific port to advance from this screen.
