Overrated / Underrated Options
Overrated#
- wavedash down as movement option
- it's slow and doesn't really accomplish much. I think it's better to just keep dash dancing. Or you can fullhop somewhere.
- jab against grabby characters like marth/doc/dk/peach/sheik
- It can be used sparingly when spaced. But pretty often these chars are holding down + holding shield + mashing a to grab. So jab will get you grabbed even when they are at high percent.
- lasering when you are losing
- if it's so good, why weren't you doing it when it was even? Maybe to get them up from 0 percent but beyond that, 😱.
- Run up raw upsmash
- Standing in the very outer corner of the stage
- A lot of chars won't want to push all the way into the corner to get you.
- You can get out by jump to the plat or by jump to ledge ledgedash
- Or you can crouch
Underrated#
- On battlefield / yoshis / dreamland double jumping to the side plat from ledge instead of wavedashing.
- You can just land and shield. Or you can horiz waveland (easiest on battlefield).
- You can also do laser land if you want.
- Intentional normal ledge getup
- hey, it's better than tournament winner over and over
- Getup attack rather than roll to occupy ledge when under 100%. Attack holds ledge longer (but you might get clipped by your opponent's recovery more often).
- Dashing back out of almost everything you do
- I spam this and get a lot of mileage off of it. It's a great default for fox.
- Run off instant side b to ledge
- It grabs ledge really fast and you can commit to it so late that it doesn't even look like you're grabbing ledge.
- I like to fwd/back throw offstage into instant runoff side b to ledge.
- If you do the side b close enough to ledge it's really fast because you don't do the side b launch. (Note that falco always has to do the side b launch, but fox doesn't).
- Short hop double laser
- Laser in general is underutilized but I think sh double laser is great. You can hold shield while doing it to avoid grounded laser.
- Recovering with super high side b to top platform.
- You'll probably get your jump back at least. Good against marth.
- Crouch cancel techchase on missed tech when under 90 percent ish
- really good to practice this into grab or upsmash at kill percent. It looks really pro to do, but really I do it because it's the easiest way to cover getup attack.
- I like it more than shield because it'll even turn you around to face your opponent when hit.
- You'll also want to learn dashback out of crouch to cover them rolling sometimes. But even if you can't do it crouch can still be great.
